Study ranks Dallas in top 10 cities for networking

According to a recent study by social media platform LinkedIn, which ranked the U.S. metro areas for how quickly newcomers were able to make local connections, the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex came in at 10th place.

The data of more than 3 million newly relocated users of LinkedIn in 2021 was analyzed by the social media networking platform’s economic graph data team. The study calculated “connection rates” based on new connections made on LinkedIn by relocated users to each metro, as compared to the country’s average. Relocating students were excluded in the study as the focus was on those entering the workforce.

Multiple benefits exist for those making connections specific to their industry when relocating to another city, such as finding volunteer work and groups with similar hobbies. In the physical world, Business Cards play an important role in cementing connections.

According to the study, relocated GenZ workers made connections the fastest, with men averaging significantly more connections than woman. The report noted:
"The fastest growth in LinkedIn members’ overall pace for adding connections – including ones outside their new metros – occurred in their first two months after migrating. By the third month, this connection rate stabilized at about half their initial level."

Not surprisingly New York City ranked No. 1 at 11.1 times the national average for newcomers making connections, follow by the San Francisco Bay Area and Salt Lake City. Dallas-Fort Worth’s No. 10 spot represented 7.8 times the national average.
