The new park would be along the Escarpment Zone, an area of steep cliffs near Mountain Creek Parkway off Eagle Ford Road south of I-20. In cooperation with The Mountain Creek Church, The Dallas Off Road Bicycle Association (DORBA) has been maintaining trails across the 282-acre site for decades. Property adjacent to the site, parts of which are privately owned, is owned by the Church.
Maps featuring areas of interest such as bike trails are sometimes be ordered by chambers of commerce from Print shops.
An effort to make the trails a permanent part of a City of Dallas Park has been underway by the Trust for Public Land (TPL), which is a non-profit. The reasoning for this was explained by Robert Kent, the TPL Texas State Director:
“….by conveying it to the city and turning it into a formal public park, that will protect this property for public use, in perpetuity.”
The proposal that the Dallas City Council Quality of Life Committee was given includes provisions for the sharing of parking by the new park and Mountain Creek Church. The church has for years permitted the public to utilize its part of the elevated property.
If the land is designated a city park, the DORBA has said that it will continue maintaining the trails along with the 25 other Dallas area trail locations.
