Operation Beautification on the minds of Dallas neighborhoods

Neighborhood groups across Dallas are being encouraged to join in a spring cleaning project later this month.

The idea is forhomeowner's associations, crime watch groups, civic groups and neighborhood associations to cover their stomping grounds and clean up any litter or other unsightly clutter they find. City officials will help by providing a special trash collection for participating neighborhoods.

The focus of Operation Beautification is not for homeowners to clean out their homes, but rather for members of the community to spruce up the outside environment, particularly the common spaces. Keeping a neighborhood looking tidy may instill pride, increase property values and even reduce crime, since criminals may be more likely to ply their trade in other neighborhoods.

Neighborhood businesses may wish to participate as well, and can do so by contacting a flyer printing service to advertise tie-in specials on cleaning supplies, or coupons for money off a pizza for participants. In doing so, they may help generate  goodwill while also promoting themselves.

To tap into the help offered by the City of Dallas, groups must register by Monday, May 12. To find answers to FAQs, visit the Dallas City Hall website or call (214) 670-5551 for any other questions. For information in Spanish, call (214) 671-8873.

The event is scheduled for May 17.
