MLK Community Center to hold cook-off

A Dallas celebration of soul food is being sponsored by the MLK Community Center this month, shining a spotlight on local chefs and businesses while highlighting the cuisine’s diversity.

The 2023 Taste of Soul will, in addition to offering a tasting from a variety of dishes across four categories, also feature live entertainment, a photo booth, and a variety of raffles and prizes. There is no cost to attend; and guests will be able to sample as many dishes as they wish. While there, they can gather materials detailing where the food came from and whether the chef or restaurant does catering, and can collect Business Cards from the establishments or cooks with their favorite food.

Contestants can, for a $50 registration fee, enter a dish in one of four categories: meat, vegan or vegetarian, side dishes, or desserts. Each category’s first place winner will receive $500. One grand prize winner will be selected and will receive $750.

A limited number of contestants per category will be allowed and chosen on a first come, first served basis up until each category is filled. Each contestant will be provided with a table and two chairs and will be expected to provide enough food for 200 people to receive samples. Contestants must bring their own sample cups.

The 2023 Soul Food Cook-off take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 25 at the MLK Community Center at 2922 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.
