In anticipation of the 2015 Texas State Fair, the Fair Food Awards finalists were named on August 18.
From over 50 entries, judges narrowed the field down to
eight finalists. Unsurprisingly, most of the finalists were fried concoctions, as is traditional with fair food.
The judging panel tasted their way through a variety of treats and delicacies, including Chicken Fried Lobster topped with a Champagne Gravy. Other unusual choices included Deep Fried Alligator’s Egg Nest, Fried Beer-Battered Buffalo, Pretzel Crusted Pollo Queso and Lone Star Pork Handle. A more traditional Texas State Fair experience can be found in the Cowboy Corn Crunch.
The eight finalists are rounded off with Fernie’s Holy Moly Carrot Cake Roly and a Smoky Bacon Margarita.
The creators of these and other culinary masterpieces will likely have his or her business card printing service provide them with a fresh supply of cards to be passed out to prospective clients and possible business partners at the fair.
On August 30 a panel of celebrity judges, including Drew Pearson, former Dallas Cowboy, Devin Harris, Dallas Maverick, and restaurateur John Tesar, will select the ‘Best Tasting’ and ‘Most Creative’ award winners. Money raised from the competition goes to the State Fair of Texas Youth Scholarship Program, which has provided in excess of $4.5 million in scholarship money to over 1,600 students.
