A construction company has been hired to handle the $2bn Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport renovation project approved last August.
Suffolk, a Boston-based company with offices in 10 major cities, has been hired to complete the job. The company is privately held and ranked No. 23 among the “Top 400 Contractors” on the Engineering News Record list.
The work will mostly be conducted in Terminal C, which will undergo a major renovation, as well as more modest renovations to Terminal A. American Airlines is the sole airline occupying Terminal C, which is the DFW Airport’s busiest, largest and oldest terminal.
The renovation will increase gate capacity in Terminal A and Terminal C, as well as include new baggage handling areas, upgraded finishes to the interiors of 18 domestic gates, and enlarging and reconfiguring ticketing and security checkpoints. Additionally, the will be general improvements that are less noticeable to travelers such as replacing the air conditioning, the installation of energy-efficient glazing, adaptations to passenger boarding bridges, guidance systems, jet fuel lines, and ramp markings.

DFW is the country’s second-largest airport by area. Several recently completed and ongoing infrastructure projects at the airport include gates expansion on Terminal D South, the renovations of taxiways and runways, and a state-of-the-art Integrated Operations Center opening.
Pre-construction has already commenced, and full construction and renovations should start in 2024 with project completion anticipated for 2026.
