DFW makes impressive jump on best tech city list

Dallas-Fort Worth’s reputation as a tech hub has been given a boost with the results of the Tech Town Index report of best tech cities.

The CompTIA trade group, which created the Tech Town Index report, considered 20 metro areas with high demand for tech workers and populations greater than 250,000. Using job-posting data from August of last year to July 2020, ranking was based on cost of living, number of IT job postings, and projected job growth for IT in the next year, and by 2025.

Dallas and Fort Worth moved from No. 7 in 2019 to the No. 2 position in 2020, putting it ahead of both San Francisco and Silicon Valley. How the metro was able to do this was attributed by CompTIA to the tremendous number of available IT jobs here. The DFW metro area had 178,579 tech job posting over the last year. The 3% growth is projected for 2020 to 2021, and over the next five years it is anticipated to be 11%. Newly formed companies or divisions usually need graphic design-trained individuals to create logos.

Other contributing factors include the cost of living in DFW, which is 2% lower than the national average, and IT’s median salary standing at a healthy $94,044.

Austin earned the rank of No. 1 in 2020, just as it did in 2019. The Texas capital took third place in the first ever Tech Town Index in 2018.
