Swim Across America – Dallas has announced a June date for its third annual fundraising swim this year.
Swim Across America (SAA) is a nonprofit organization that holds swimming-related events to raise money for cancer research, as well as the treatment and prevention of cancer. The event will be held at The Harbor, Lake Ray Hubbard which is located in Rockwall Texas. The funds will be presented to the Innovative Clinical Trials Center, which is located at the Bayer Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center. This is the largest outpatient center in North Texas and dedicates itself to caring for cancer patients, research, and educating people on how to prevent the disease.
The participants in the swim will be proud to know that they are helping their own community by raising funds. The organizers of SAA – Dallas pledged in 2011 to raise $1m by 2015, and the funds raised have all been pledged to Bayer Sammons Cancer Center. In the last two years, the swimmers have raised $600,000 and are on target to reach $1m. The aim for 2013 is to raise $300,000 so that the organization is well on the way to achieving the goal.
According to one of the three co-chairs of the SAA – Dallas event, Jeanne Cunningham, the team has a strong group of volunteers and former Olympians who will help to achieve the target. The event will be promoted using various types of media, possibly including the poster printing skills of local Print companies.
The date for this year’s swim has been confirmed as June 8.
