A report by Volusion, compiled from information gleaned from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Annual Survey of Entrepreneurs, puts the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metroplex in the No. 12 spot for minority-owned startups.
The Volusion report ranked the top 15 markets. Among the information included for DFW is that 35.5% of total starts were minority owned. This translated to a total of 4,357 businesses employing 23,992 people with gross sales in the range of $1bn to under $5bn. While 35.5% was good enough to make the list, there is still room for improvement, since DFW has a minority population of 52.4%.
The first year for a start-up company is critical, and many companies invest in modestly priced Promotional Products to help build name recognition.
A couple of other metros in the Lone Star State made it into the list's top 15. A little way ahead of Dallas-Fort Worth is San Antonio-New Braunfels in the No. 6 spot, and at No. 13, right behind DFW, is Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metroplex with 45% and 34.5% respectively.
The three markets that ranked at the top of the list were all located in California: San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara took the number one spot, No. 2 was Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario, with the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim coming in at No. 3. In each of these markets, approximately half of the startups are minority owned.
