Dallas economy places among best-performing during pandemic

A recent report comparing August 2019 to August 2020 shows Dallas among the best-performing cities with regards to employment among the nation’s 50 biggest metro areas.

A report issued by the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce shows Dallas in the No. 3 slot for job retention among large metro areas. The top spot was occupied by Austin, followed by Indianapolis at No. 2. The top five cities on the list were rounded out by Phoenix at No. 4 and Jacksonville, Florida at No. 5.

Austin’s No. 1 ranking for year-over-year job losses was due in no small part to the addition of 19,800 jobs this August, which lowered its pandemic-related job losses by over 50,000. As of August of 2020, Austin’s unemployment rate stood at 5.5%, while it was 6.2% in Dallas. According to the report, “financial activities” has been the only sector to have added jobs to the state.

A variety of groups within a city send information such as this to their printing service to be included in their next brochure printing order.

Expectations for a fairly quick rebound of the Texas economy, according to business experts, are reasonably optimistic. Moreover, annual job growth projections, as laid out by Texas economist Ray Perryman, have Dallas increasing jobs by 1.79% through 2045, which translates to over 1.6 million new jobs for the city.
