Dickey’s Barbecue Pit prides itself on being one of the most successful barbecue franchise companies, which is why it is introducing a new Barbecue Pit Master Program. Although at least three members of staff in each Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurant have to be "Barbecue U" certified, the new training will take the development program to a higher level.
Established in 1941, the first Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurant was in Dallas, Texas. According to the president of the franchise, Roland Dickey Jr., education and training are the key to their success and are therefore taken very seriously. A minimum of three employees from each restaurant will have attended Barbecue U, which is a “barbecue boot camp” run by Dickey's. Everything from how to prepare food and understand business systems to information about the the brand is taught at the training and development session.
More than 250 barbecue fanatics complete the program each year with the numbers steadily increasing as the franchise grows. The company will possibly utilize the services of a local printing company to outsource banner printing and other methods used in a marketing campaign, boosting the success of the franchise.
Dickey Jr. says that their customers expect perfection, which is why they invest in such intense training and education. Once Barbecue U has been completed, staff can further their education by doing an online course, which includes the Pit Master Program. The director of training for the restaurants, Ashley Wright, believes that the training programs will keep staff motivated and eager while also providing the latest information.
