Dallas agrees street changes to keep AT&T

On April 12, the Dallas City Council agree to the terms required by AT&T to remain in downtown Dallas.

It was decided by AT&T last October that contingent on certain requests being fulfilled by the city, the company would keep its headquarters here. Rather than flee to the suburbs as is becoming increasing popular with companies across the country, AT&T would invest $100m to update its present campus.

Among the renovations AT&T has planned for its Dallas headquarters is a new drop-off lane. Per the artist renderings provided by the company, extending over the sidewalk will be a long glass canopy to protect those being dropped off from the elements.

Dallas City Council agree to create a pedestrian-friendly ‘Discovery District’ where restaurants and retail shops would draw people to the city’s downtown area. Included in the proposed street changes around the AT&T headquarters will be the closure of two streets. Additionally, two one-way streets are to be transformed to two-way traffic.

One of the greatest changes will be reducing Commerce Street eastbound lanes from four to three between Houston Street and Cesar Chavez Boulevard. Businesses in the immediate area will likely wish to rethink their marketing strategy and perhaps consider employing a flyer printing service to encourage continued patronage and assist customers in finding their way to their establishment.
