A trio of Dallas high schools have been ranked high on the latest U.S. News and World Report’s annual list of the best public high schools in the country.
Released on April 23, the 2024 list ranked at No. 6 the School for the Talented and Gifted, part of the Dallas Independent School District, for the second year running. It also came at No. 3 among the best magnet schools and No.21 in the country among the best STEM high schools while maintaining its position as the No. 1 ranked school in Texas.
Second highest among Dallas schools on the U.S. News national list was Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School at No. 23, which also was No. 10 nationally in the category of best magnet high school.

Finally, but nevertheless still impressive, Dallas’ Science and Engineering Magnet School was ranked on the report as No.29 among the United States’ best high schools as well as No. 11 in the best magnet high school category and No. 37 among best STEM high schools.
About 18,000 high schools undergo evaluation by U.S. News for their annual report, which is based on six factors: reading and math performance, reading and math proficiency, college readiness, college curriculum breadth, underserved student performance and graduation rates.
Occupying the No. 1 spot on the national list in 2024 is Peoria, Arizona’s BASIS Peoria Charter School.
