A group of 68 students have decided to spend their summer cycling to Alaska in order to help fund cancer research. The public is invited to join them on the very first leg of their journey, which leaves from Cedar Park.
The Texas 4000 will see the cyclists follow one of three routes that will take them over the more than 4,000 miles to Alaska. They will ride north across the US and Canada before meeting up for the final 10 day portion of their trip towards Anchorage.
Along the way, the participants will make stops and give presentations of grants to help support cancer treatment facilities and research into finding cures. Since it first began in 2003, more than $7m in contributions has been made available through the ride.
One June 4th, the Atlas ride will take place. This is the first part of the journey, and is open to the public. It begins in Cedar Park, and following the ride, there will be a party with food, wine and fun. One June 5h, the Texas 4000 participants will be off.
