The Grappling Industries competition series will be holding an jiu jitsu and submission grappling tournament in Cedar Park this January, bringing together grapplers of all types and experience levels.
The tournament, called Grappling Industries Austin, will follow a round robin tournament, with all adult competitors receiving four matches as part of a five-person group. The matches will be scored by points, with the possibility of submission finishes. The competition will feature both gi and no-gi divisions, combining traditional jiu-jitsu with modern MMA-inspired grappling. Competitors will also be grouped according to age, weight, gender, and experience levels, although some divisions may be merged based on the number of registered participants.
The top 3 finishers in each division will receive gold, silver, and bronze medals, in addition to awards for the top finishing teams and the team with the best youth participants. Teams will be assigned based on the school or program that competitors belong to. Athletic competitions like this often use local businesses like Print shops and trophy creators to create unique prizes. Results at the event will also contribute to Grappling Industries’ larger rankings, including both seasons and lifetime. The tournament will also be benefiting the We Defy Foundation, which provides physical therapy to disabled combat veterans through jiu-jitsu.
The Grappling Industries Austin tournament will take place in Cedar Park at Austin Sports Center on January 26, 2025.
