Texas celebrates German Heritage for the holidays

The German Texans Heritage Society will present the German-Texan Annual Christmas Market in Austin this December.

The holiday event brings together locals and visitors with German heritage, as well as residents of the community. Authentic food specialties such as Christmas stollen (provided by the New World Bakery) and glühwein (hot spiced wine) will be available.

Handcrafted holiday ornaments, décor, nutcrackers, and smokers are all part of the traditional festivities. German gourmet cookies from Silke’s add to the special treat line-up.

Members of the German Texans Heritage Society have the opportunity to shop early on the Wednesday before the event, avoiding the lines. However, the full experience which includes entertainment will take place on the Saturday. The Saengerrunde and Sunshine Willie Stump Band will perform.

Vendors that participate in craft shows often use local Print shops to handle projects such as business card printing. Having a large supply of Business Cards to distribute at festivals and events can result in future business orders.

The goal of the German Texans Heritage Society is to ensure generations are informed about German-Texan heritage. Understanding the societal benefits of cultural diversity is promoted by the entity.

The market will take place at The German Free School Building on December 5, although Society members can get an early start on December 2. The school is located at 507 E 10th St.
