Austin area museums will open their doors to visitors for free on one day next month.

The 29th annual Museum Day will showcase everything from the city's culture and history, to art, science and music.

More than 20 museums and cultural sites will participate in the event. A number of them will provide visitors with special programming, guided tours and other activities geared to all ages.

Among the venues taking part in museum day are the Austin History Center, Austin Museum of Popular Culture, Blanton Museum of Art, History of Medicine Gallery, LBJ Presidential Library, Texas Military Forces Museum, Texas Music Museum and the Texas Science & Natural History Museum.

The Austin Museum Partnership(AMP) has organized the special day on the second last Sunday of each September since 1998.

The non-profit group builds partnerships between community museums and raises their public profile. AMP also strengthens the cultural sector through ongoing education, staff training, and cooperative networks for museum professionals. An Elevate Grant from Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment assists in making the day possible.

Cultural venues such as museums and galleries often use flyer printing to outline their exhibitions and installations.
