The Woman behind the Name comes to the Austin Theater next month. The show features a first-hand intimate chat with humorist, writer and outspoken commentator Fran Lebowitz.
Lebowitz is known for her sarcastic remarks and observations about American life and has been compared to Dorothy Parker, the well-known author, poet and critic with a reputation for having a sharp wit.
Lebowitz, 74, began her writing career in the early 1970s, working for a small magazine called Change, and was soon hired by famed artist Andy Warhol as a columnist for his publication. She went on to pen several successful Books, including Metropolitan Life and Social Studies, which were each a collection of comedic essays. In addition, she has been featured in several films and documentaries and also played a judge on the television series Law and Order.
The Lebowitz show will be presented at Austin’s historic Paramount Theater. It first opened in 1915 as the Majestic Theater and over the years has been the venue for a number of world premieres of successful films. In addition to continued movie screenings, Paramount Theater hosts a full schedule of concerts and stand-up comedy shows. Owners of venues such as this regularly use poster printing to promote their events.
The Fran Lebowitz tour will stop in Austin January 29, 2025. Showtime is at 7 pm. Tickets are available on the theater website.
