Derby rolling back into Austin

The Texas Roller Derby will host a competition between the Cherry Bombs and Putas Del Fuego teams next month in Austin.

The Texas Roller Derby, a.k.a. TXRD, began in 2001 and brings athletes and spectators of all ages together to cheer on their favorite team. An old-school sport, the roller derby provides family-friendly, fast-paced entertainment.

The TXRD expanded out in 2005 as it began hosting trainers and invitational games with leagues from other regions including Renegade Rollergirls, Charm City Rollergirls, and LA Derby Dolls.

Sponsors provide the funding to maintain the costs associated with the competitions as well as ensure a high-quality and fun experience for attendees. Current sponsors include Pride Socks, Pasta & Co., The 04 Lounge, The Jackalope, Medusa Skates, Motorblade, and Austin Rock City Realty. Sponsorships are available including the one-bout-only “Derby a la carte” package.

Brochure printing is often ordered from local Print shops for events of this type. Vivid images, enticing content and contact information can be included in the Brochures and distributed in large quantities. This creates awareness and potential ticket sales increase.

Volunteers are needed for the events including the building of the track. The build takes place the day of the event starting in the morning and ending in the mid-afternoon. Teardown takes place around midnight after the game.

The next roller derby game will take place July 11 at Palmer Event Center.
