Austin celebrates Memorial Day with triathlon

Next month’s Ascension Seton Captex Tri in Austin offers triathletes a choice of three different racing distances, including rookie, sprint and Olympic.

Those in the rookie class will face a swim of 300 meters, bike 12.3 miles and run for 2 miles. The sprint distance includes a 750-meter swim, a 12.3-mile cycle and a 3.1-mile run. The Olympic course includes a 1500-meter swim followed by a 24.3-mile bike ride and 6.2-mile run. A team relay option is also available for the two longer races.

Participants will begin the day with a swim in the waters of Lady Bird Lake, then pedal through the heart of the city before donning the running gear and heading out on the run course, which includes the beautiful scenery of Butler Park. Two high-energy bands will help encourage runners to complete the Tri and claim their finishers' medal.

After crossing the finish line, triathletes can join spectators in celebrating their achievement at the after-race festival. Food and beverages will be available, and the crowd will be entertained by a live band near the beer garden.

Organizers of races such as this often use banner printing to draw attention to their events.

The CapTex Tri will be held May 27, 2025 at Auditorium Shores in Austin. The full schedule of race weekend events and an inclement weather contingency plan is available on the event website.
