Austin will be getting a new Mexican restaurant this spring.
Philip Speer, who most recently served as the chef at French eatery Bonhomie and was the director of culinary operations at Uchi, recently announced that he will be opening a new modern Mexican restaurant in downtown Austin.
The restaurant will be called Comedor and will be located in a building designed by the architect Tom Kundig. The location will be at Colorado and West Fifth streets.
Speer will be opening the restaurant along with his two partners, Conor Oman, from Garage, and William Ball. Speer will oversee the restaurant's culinary operations and will also be the pastry chef. Joining him in the kitchen will be Daniela Vazquez and Gabe Erales. Erales was previously at Dai Due Taqueria in Austin, while Vazquez was at Dulce Patria in Mexico City.
Restaurateurs who are planning a new location can use Business Cards to network with others in the industry and to let patrons know about the establishment.
The restaurant's menu has yet to be released, but diners can expect to see whole dourade, a type of fish, served with mole verde (a green Mexican sauce) and tortillas.
Julian King will be the general manager of Comedor, while the team from Garage will manage the restaurant's beverages.
Comedor is currently hiring for front and back of house positions. The restaurant plans to open in April.
