Chicken eatery opens in Columbia
A new location of the Cocky Rooster is now opened in Columbia on Devine Street in the Five Points neighborhood.
This chain, based in Richmond, Virginia, offers fried chicken and is next to the University of South Carolina. Fittingly, the mascot of the school is the Gamecocks.
Such new eateries can take advantage of potential logo designs to create flyers and brochures to promote themselves throughout a neighborhood.
Curtis Lyons who has 30 years of experience in the restaurant industry leads the location in Columbia. It has indoor dining for 24 people as well as takeout and delivery and is looking to reflect local culture through collaborations with artists and suppliers.
The Cocky Rooster is a fast-casual restaurant that focuses on chicken wings, offered as fried, smoked, and boneless along with a variety of dry rubs and creative sauces. The eatery also offers chicken tenders, hand-breaded chicken sandwiches, and sides like seasoned fries, often paired with dips made in-house like ranch or blue cheese. The menu also includes vegetarian options, in an effort to cater to a broader crowd.
Co-owner of the Richmond restaurant, Luke Phillips, said this is the first location of the restaurant outside of its home base and that Columbia seemed to be a natural place to expand given the name of the university’s mascot which fits with what his restaurant offers. He said there are plans to open locations in North Carolina and Virginia.
