Anderson University recently announced that construction has begun on the G. Ross Anderson Jr. Student Center, which will be the culmination of $20m spent by the college in expanding the campus in the South Carolina city.
The campus has grown from 68 to 271 acres since 2007, with five new residence halls and completion of an $8m library upping its presence. New athletic facilities have been added, including a new tennis center and a new softball complex with 200 stadium-style seats. Finishing touches are being made to a new swimming pool for both students and campers who use pool facilities while enrolled in summer camps in the area.
According to Barry Ray, a spokesperson for the University, the building includes a new dining hall, food kiosks from Einstein Brothers Bagels and Chick-fil-A, a 400-seat banquet hall, and a fitness center.
Ray added that the expansion was in response to a growing student population, which has doubled in the last decade. There are now 3,200 undergraduate and graduate students, and a record freshman class is expected to enroll for Fall 2015.
The Student Center is expected to open in the fall of next year. The University may be turning to flyer printing companies to let current and prospective students know about the facility, and offer more information about its amenities.
