The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers has recently given its Roger R. and Laura M. Yoerger Preprofessional Engineer of the Year Award to Cassidy Laird, a member of the Tiger Band at Clemson University, just a short distance from Anderson.
The award identifies an undergraduate engineering student in the county who has had an excellent academic record and held leadership positions in local, regional, and international communities.
Laird is studying biosystems engineering and is the top 1% of this group of students at the University. In May, she will receive her Bachelor of Science degree and then complete her graduate studies at Clemson. After that, she is hoping to work on biofuels that could provide an alternative to gasoline.
Caye Drapcho, an associate professor of biosystems engineering, said that with all of Laird’s leadership and community activities, her academic record is even more impressive. She was co-chair of last year’s Engineers Week activities, has been chair of Adopt-A-Highway, and is a teaching assistant and student mentor. He added that she is constantly serving the university by volunteering to use her engineering skills and intellect to improve it and the larger community.
The biosystems engineering department might want to announce this prestigious award to the Clemson community by hiring a Print company to print a flyer with more information about the award, as well as Laird’s credentials that qualified her to receive it.
