Professional weightlifter to offer workshop in Anderson

A local weightlifting organization will be holding a class on the snatch technique at the Anderson Area YMCA in February.

The Snatch Workshop is a program where weightlifters can learn proper lifting techniques from an experienced coach. The workshop will show attendees how to lift more efficiently and help them better understand the movements involved with the snatch process. The instructor of the class is Edward Baker, a national weightlifting coach who was the founder of the Weightlifting Club at the University of Georgia. Baker was also mentored by John Coffee and was a 2014 National University Champion.

The business organizing the workshop is Voodoo Weightlifting, a training group founded by Baker that offers remote coaching services to athletes. The organization creates weekly individualized routines for its members and allows people to train at its in-person facility when coaches are present. Daily passes for the gym cost $20, and open gym memberships cost $100 per month. People can buy weightlifting straps from the business for $21. The company also sells tank tops for $25.

The Snatch Workshop will be held on Saturday, February 11 from 10:00 am to noon. Those interested in attending Baker’s lesson can pay $90. The cost of the class includes a Voodoo Weightlifting T-shirt. Businesses similar to this may order Flyers and Posters from local Print shops to help promote their courses to athletes.
