At a groundbreaking ceremony along South Carolina 81 last Friday, officials announced that a new Veterans’ Affairs clinic will be opening in Anderson by late spring or early summer of next year.
No doubt flyer printing has been used to let veterans know of this clinic, which will offer outpatient and many additional services.
The clinic will be located on 12 acres of land and is estimated to cost $31m. It will be more than four times the size of the clinic that already exists in Anderson, and will have a much larger staff.
Some of the services that will be offered include primary care, rehabilitation, radiology, expanded mental health services, audiology, cardiology, and prosthetics. Telemedicine will also be available so that doctors in other areas of South Carolina, and even other states, will be able to diagnose patients on a remote basis and also save them time.
The new director of the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, Timothy McMurray, commented that this clinic will be very meaningful for the veterans in Anderson and throughout Upstate South Carolina.
A regional director for the Veterans Administration, Charles Sepich, added that having the telemedicine capability will hopefully avoid the issue of veterans having to travel to Columbia in order to be treated for conditions that should be remediable closer to home.
