A new space for entrepreneurs to start, build, and develop their companies will be opening in downtown Anderson, occupying 10,000 square feet on the ground floor of the parking garage on Whitner Street, which has been vacant since 2009.
To be called ‘e-Merge at the Garage’, the project was the idea of Anderson-based technology executive, Craig Kinley, who said that the South Carolina Department of Commerce gave him a grant of $25,000 for the center, with another gift of $150,000 from AT&R - its first corporate partner.
Kinley commented that the facility will be transformed into a vibrant incubator-accelerator space for entrepreneurs over the next 12 months, as this will enable businesses and their partners in industry to effect changes for many years in the future.
The public-private economic development group Innovate Anderson will organize a panel to determine qualified entrepreneurs in the areas of information, technology, healthcare, education, and the culinary arts. These starters will then go through 12 weeks of training, during which they will be offered assistance in areas such as idea creation, looking for business, and funding. Their workspace will be free, and mentors and funding opportunities will also be provided without any commitment of a financial nature to e-Merge at the Garage.
Entrepreneurs will undoubtedly find handouts from brochure printers around town that will provide them with more information and details about the space and application procedures.
