What's Happening in Anderson, SC…

The Anderson County Council approved a hospitality tax for those areas of the County that are unincorporated, and the move was applauded by members of the Municipal Association of the County at its recent meeting.

The hospitality tax would be 2% on prepared drinks and food. Proceeds from the tax would go towards improvements at various parks throughout the county, including Green Pond Landing, and would add a pool and at the Anderson Sports and Entertainment Center.

Terrance Roberts, Mayor of Anderson, said the tax would have a significant impact if it were approved. He pointed out that many people are drawn to downtown Anderson due to Carolina Wren Park, which was financed primarily by the hospitality tax form the city. During the summer, there is a weekly block party and movies outdoors, while the winter program includes holiday skating.

Matt Harbin began his one-year term as president of the Municipal Association at the meeting. With regard to the Association, he said that it enables leaders from towns and cities throughout the County to share ideas and discuss solutions to similar problems and challenges that these leaders face.

The Municipal Association might benefit from the assistance of a local printing company to create various printed materials that can be distributed throughout the County, offeringmore information about the tax and its benefits for the County.
