The BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation recently awarded Anderson County’s ‘Eat Smart, Move More’ a $100,200 grant that will enable Anderson and the County to focus on implementing increased health-food opportunities and fitness programs for the younger generation.
The presentation of the award was made at Carolina Wren Park at a block party, and was attended by Bill Manson, CEO and President of AnMedHealth. Other key personnel present for the awards included South Carolina Medical Association President Marshall Meadors and State Senator Billy O’Dell.
According to the Foundation’s Executive Director, Harvey Galloway, Anderson was chosen as one of the six counties in the state to jumpstart its ‘Let’s Go SC’ initiative, primarily because of its leadership in the community with regard to health endeavors.
South Carolina’s ‘Eat Smart Move More’ community action manager, Lauren Neely, added that Anderson is a community that is ready to get started on these activities and start the education programs.
‘Eat Smart, Move More’ in Anderson County plans to implement increased fitness programs and healthy food opportunities, particularly for low income communities. The grant will enable the County to hire a coordinator for the program.
The County may be turning to brochure printing companies to create a brochure that can be distributed throughout the County with more information about the initiative.
