An entrepreneurial boot camp in Anderson that is designed to build local and regional entrepreneurs recently yielded five new startups in the community.
The program, e-Spark, is the creation of e-Merge at the Garage, and is part of the city’s economic development efforts. Its first cohort has produced Energy Variable Intelligence, Intelligent Sensor Solutions, Light Food, Core Kidz, and RunThisTown Electric City. These new companies are most likely using various marketing services to promote their products and offerings to those in the community, and the surrounding areas.
According to the economic development director of Anderson, Glenn Breed, local entrepreneurs have been given the knowledge, support, and motivation from e-Merge at the Garage to establish businesses that will be successful in Anderson. The Boot Camp, which lasts for 12 weeks and is located in downtown Anderson, has strengthened relationships in the city, with businesses in the downtown and others who are looking to start their own companies.
Earlier this year, the South Carolina Department of Commerce awarded the city of Anderson a grant of $125,000 to support programs at e-Merge at the Garage. Another $250,000 was used by Innovate Anderson to renovate the garage location. Breed commented that the grant awards have also been of great benefit to the city.
E-Merge at the Garage also offers a Cyber Summer Camp for students in grades three through 12 and the LemonAde stand, in partnership with Clemson University.
