A collection for soldiers from South Carolina is currently underway, with help from officials from Anderson County.
According to a spokeswoman from the County, Angie Stringer, this collection drive started several years ago, with 20 large Boxes being filled with items and mailed to South Carolina soldiers serving overseas in 2010.
Some of the items that people can donate include bathing products such as body soap, toothpaste, and solid deodorant. Items for entertainment are also welcomed, such as yo-yos, word puzzle Books, and playing cards. Snacks gratefully accepted include hard candy, Rice Krispies Treats, and Pop-Tarts.
Collection bins will be at all offices of Anderson County, the Anderson County Courthouse, and each of the branches of the Anderson County Library. The bins will be collected on July 2 and then the donated items will be prepared for shipment. The County may be using flyer printing companies to offer more details about needed items and where they can be delivered.
On July 4, at the Charter Amphitheater in Simpsonville, there will be the annual concert during which the results of the campaign will be announced.
Ken Waters, a Councilman from Anderson County, commented that he felt this was “a great project”, alluding to a time when it was a treat to get his favorite snacks that were not available overseas.
