Clemson University, located a short distance from Anderson, has recently submitted requests to the state for funding for several agricultural projects on campus and throughout South Carolina.
The first is for $11m to renovate and expand the T. Ed Garrison Livestock Arena. The University is also looking for $1.25m for beef and dairy research, $2.5m to support its five education and research centers and campus farms, and $500,000 to help expand and enhance vegetable and fruit production in the state.
Along with this, it also is seeking $750,000 to strengthen the program in the state for the prevention of infectious diseases, as it looks to reduce the threat of a deadly flu virus in poultry and other animal illnesses. Clemson Public Service and Agriculture includes the Livestock Poultry Health unit of the state. The requested funding would pay for new laboratory staff, equipment, and animal health inspectors.
Vice president of the Ridge Spring’s Titan Farms, Lori Anne Carr, commented that growth in the agricultural business in the state would not be possible without the support and work of the research undertaken at Clemson.
