Anderson to debut fishing tourney for veterans

Fishing 4 Heroes will hold its first fishing competition in Anderson at the Green Pond Landing & Event Center.

The 1st Annual Veterans Bass Tournament is a community competition where fishers can pair up with veterans to see which duo will capture the most fish. The teams are made up of a designated captain and a veteran co-angler. Captains in the event can be veterans or civilians. The top teams will get cash prizes, and money will also be awarded to the duo with the biggest fish. All competitors will be given a team jersey for the tournament.

Fishing 4 Heroes is an organization that was created by Josh Stamey in 2021. Stamey is an experienced angler who wanted to give back to veterans by offering them free fishing experiences that help vets relax on the water. The nonprofit has provided fishing trips to over 90 veterans. The group pays for all excursion supplies, such as fishing rods, bait, and life jackets.

The bass tourney will be on March 9th from 6:00am to 3:00pm. There is no cost for veterans to become a co-angler for the event. Those who want to be a captain for the competition must pay $250. People can volunteer at the contest for a free t-shirt. Any organization in charge of similar fishing tournaments may add their Logo Design to the Apparel given out at the events.
