A dog park may soon be coming to Anderson.
According to the chairman of the dog park committee for a group called To Benefit Anderson, Dr. Marshall Meadors, cash from an anonymous donor along with funds raised from his organization will enable the park to be built near the Anderson County Main Library on a wooded three-acre site. The County owns most of the property with the rest belonging to AnMed Health, which has agreed that the land it owns could be used for the park.
County Administrator Rusty Burns says that the Anderson County Council still needs to vote on the proposal but this should be happening sometime this month. In general, council members are in favor of the land being used for a dog park.
Blake Sanders, an associate of Alta Planning and Design based in Greenville and the person who is designing the dog park, says the park will have 30,000 square feet for small dogs and 42,000 square feet for large dogs. There will be 12 parking spaces and two sculptures with a canine theme.
Groundbreaking for the park may take place within the next month, according to Meadors. It will be maintained by the city of Anderson.
