What's Happening in Anderson, SC…

The Civic Center of Anderson will be holding a race in January at the community’s sports complex.

The Snowbird Challenge is an annual running event where people can compete in races of different lengths for hand-made awards. The program is inspired by the Carolina Reaper Challenge and was made for those who could not compete in the activity during the summer. This year, the races will include the Frozen Full Marathon, Hibernate Half Marathon, and Reindeer Marathon Relay. There will also be a Toboggan Trot 10k held at the event.

The course for the race will consist mostly of walking paths, though there will be road intersection crossings in the route where runners have to yield to traffic. A small section of the course is made of gravel. The challenges offered at the event are open to walkers, those with strollers, and dogs. Participants in the races can receive a finisher medal, free photos, a custom sticker, and complimentary hot cocoa at the finish line.

The Snowbird Challenge will be held on Saturday, January 21 and will begin at 8:00 am. The prices for the competitive events range between $35 and $65. Those who want to help the race organizers can donate food items to the event’s aid stations.
