The Anderson County Museum will be holding a lecture in June about the plants used for medication during the Civil War.
Medicinal Herbs & Plants of the Civil War is an informative presentation where people can learn more about the Civil War. The discussion will focus on the South Carolinians who had to use plants in response to the United States Navy’s Anaconda Plan, which listed medicine and other medical supplies as contraband. Visitors will learn about the pharmaceutical industry that formed in South Carolina thanks to the native plants from its fields and forests.
The presenter for the program will be Lindsay Rae Privette, an assistant professor of history at Anderson University. She teaches several classes at the college, including Colonial and Revolutionary America, War and Society, and History of American Popular Culture. Privette attended Baylor University in 2011 and went to the University of Alabama in 2013. She returned to the University of Alabama in 2018 to earn a Ph.D. in history.
The presentation will be held on Tuesday, June 13 and will start at 5:30 pm. There is no cost to attend Privette’s lecture, and registration is not required. People can enter the Anderson County Museum for free.
