Anderson continues tradition of honoring police canine

This year marks the 4th annual Hyco Memorial 5K, honoring a police canine unit. This event will feature a 5K run or walk with multiple options.

The 5K timed run will have categories of competitors, primarily grouped in ages of every 10 years or so. The top two runners, one male and one female, will each receive a $100 prize. Awards will be given to each category.

New categories this year will include runners with strollers and runners with dogs. These groups will also be eligible to win awards, and allow more people to participate in the race.

There will be an untimed option for those interested in participating without competing. All participants receive the usual race packet, as well as a special dog tag while supplies last.

After the race, starting at 11:30 am will be the Doggie Dash. This event is timed to allow those racing in the 5K to finish, and then participate in this as well. Finishers of this portion will receive dog bandanas, and a racer bag from Molly & Me Dog Bakery.

This type of event often uses flyer printing to have materials to send to previous participants, as well as potential new participants. This race, which benefits K9 teams throughout South Carolina, will begin near a parking lot and will take place on streets in Anderson. All portions of this event will be held on Saturday, October 19.
