This holiday season, Wreaths Across America is set to continue its mission of honoring and remembering fallen soldiers by placing wreaths at their graves. Anderson will host one wreath-laying ceremony on National Wreaths Across America day.
The ceremony will be held at the M.J. Cooper Veterans Cemetery, which is on Inway Drive. The goal for Anderson is to get enough wreaths to place one at every grave, which was achieved last year. The ceremony will not only place the wreaths on graves, but also speak aloud the name of those in the cemetery.
Wreaths Across America began in 1992 from the Worcester Wreath Company, which found itself with a large surplus of wreaths. These were donated to Arlington National Cemetery with some help, and the tradition began. It was not until 2005 that the tradition grabbed national attention. Since the official founding of the nonprofit in 2007, Wreaths Across America has been growing larger each year, spreading across the country and having more wreath-laying ceremonies.
The wreath-laying ceremony will go on simultaneously in several places throughout the country. Volunteers are a large part of this ceremony.
Events like this often benefit from Corporate Gifts; without such gifts, their work would not be possible. The ceremony is open to the public, and is set to take place at noon tomorrow, December 15.
