A symposium near Anderson will focus on adding novel tall fescues to area pastures, and any livestock farmers who feel it may be of interest to them are invited to attend.
Those wo come to the Novel Tall Fescue Renovation Workshop will have an opportunity to learn about steps they can take to replace the toxic varieties of tall fescue and replace them with types that are not harmful and will not reduce weight gains in livestock, or affect their reproductive yields. A variety of speakers will address the group, and the attendees will be able to learn about the issue from a variety of perspectives.
The daylong conference will include time for the delegates to network and share best practices with one another. There will also be microscope demonstrations of the different endophytes that can be found in the soil around fescues, and a discussion of how they can affect their toxicity.
Several seed company spokespeople will be presenting, and a representative of the USDA will also speak about the financial assistance available for farmers who wish to convert their pastures. Presentation Folders that contain Brochures and other informational publications can be produced for this type of occasion by an area printer.
