Very soon, the Professional World Disc Golf Championship will take place in the Pittsburgh area, and two of the four courses to be used are Butler County ones.
Disc golf players from around the world will be converging on Pittsburgh area, including the 23 year-old Simon Lizotte from Germany who holds the world flying disc record for distance thrown at 863.5 feet. Also on hand will be Catrina Allen, the current women’s champion and three time world title holder Paul McBeth.
The four courses are Knob Hill Park, Deer Lake Park, Moraine, and the course at Slippery Rock University. All the courses are within a 25-mile radius of the City of Butler, and local establishments have likely met with their local Print company to optimize their advertisement during the tournament.
Disc golf and traditional (ball) golf are similar in many ways. While in ball golf the objective is to get the ball in a cup in the ground, disc golf players aim to deposit their disc, otherwise known as a Frisbee, into an elevated metal basket at the end of each hole. As in regular golf, the goal is to go through the course taking as few turns as possible to land your disc in each basket.
Coinciding with the Disc Golf Championship, which take place August 1-8, a disc golf exhibit at the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum will open August 3. Get a Free Quote for Print
