Pittsburgh workshop explores moon gardening

Gardeners looking for a new challenge as well as those who want to create a relaxing oasis in their own backyard may want to secure their seat in a workshop that will introduce them to the beauty of moon gardens.

Pittsburgh’s Phipps Conservatory offers the public a variety of learning opportunities that are focused on home horticulture. Its “Creating a Moon Garden” class will teach how to prepare a planting that can be best appreciated after the sun goes down, and it will run for two hours.

The workshop will explore how plant choice can create a visual and scent sensory experience. Tips for selecting cultivars that release their perfume after dark will be provided, and everyone will discover how white flowers almost glow in the moonlight. Attracting nighttime pollinators such as moths, will be discussed, and ideas for incorporating unobtrusive lighting into the overall design will also be included.

The listing for the class explained that CEU credits may be available for landscape architects, and Lesie Kaplan will be the instructor. Handouts for a learning session can be ordered from Stationery printers which will also be able to provide promotional Pens and other branded materials.

This introduction to the peaceful practice of moon gardening will open at 6:30 pm on July 29th. The registration fee starts at $25.00 for members and $30.00 for non-members.
