Growing edible mushrooms in their own garden can be within easy reach of the home horticulturalist, and the attendees in the Growing Mushrooms Outdoors workshop will find out how to add culinary species to their property.
The crew at Grow Pittsburgh will be providing those with an interest in growing fungi a chance to hit the ground running, and there will be several species discussed. The session is scheduled for late March so that everyone can get started once spring arrives.
The facilitator will offer hands-on experience when it comes to working with fungi spawn, and when the session draws to a close, everyone will walk away with the supplies, knowledge, and experience to cultivate either wine cap or shiitake mushrooms. Other species, including lion's mane, oyster, and chestnut mushrooms will be on the agenda as well, and there will be time for attendees to ask questions.
More people are becoming interested in growing their own food at home, and participating in a workshop will help them learn how to get started. Sheets of growing tips, information about microclimates and how to take full advantage of them, and recipe cards that help make the most of the harvest can all be crafted by Stationery printers.
This introduction to the art, science, and magic of growing mushrooms will welcome registrants starting at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 28. The location of the class will be 806 Holland Avenue.
