The 49th Ukrainian Pysanky Sale is being held this March in Pittsburgh.
The sale is expected to feature more than 1,500 decorated eggs for sale, including hundreds of specialty eggs from such birds as ostriches, emus and geese.
The eggs were decorated by parishioners. In addition, there will be traditional arts and crafts, home cooked Ukrainian food, a bake sale, basket raffles, and several door prizes up for grabs. Visitors can also take church and museum tours.
No doubt many of the shoppers will be looking for unique gifts to give to friends and family for the Easter holiday, and among the items that may interest shoppers are ‘pysanky’. These are traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs that are decorated using the batik method, which means that the eggs are first decorated with beeswax before the color is added.
To help advertise this yearly event, organizers have created a postcard and flyer with all of the details needed. No doubt both were created with the help of a professional Pittsburgh printing company.
The Ukrainian Pysanky Sale will take place at the St. Peter and St. Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church on March 29 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Admission is free and major credit cards are accepted as payment for items. To learn more about this event, call 412-527-5359.
