Growing tomatoes can be both a science and an art, and whether they are growing tiny grape varieties or larger ones like a beefsteak, an upcoming class can help local growers to find success.
The team at Pittsburgh’s Shiloh Farm will be sharing tips for growing top tomatoes, and participants can put the advice to use right away in their own beds. The price for the activity is $10, and it will start from the ground level on up.
Attendees will discover how to choose which cultivars are best for their skill level and space, and the activity will include a guided walk through the venue's own plots. The group will find out how to trellis their plants and train them, and pruning, pest control, and disease management will be covered as well. Harvesting the crop will be addressed, and with some luck, the attendees may even be able to give some different tomato varieties a taste test drive. Seed saving is also on the agenda.
Along with all of the information, the listing for the workshop explained that everyone will go home with additional resources that may be helpful to them. A brochure printing company will be able to provide a full selection of handouts for such an activity.
This chance for local urban gardeners to brush up on their tomato growing skills is arranged for Tuesday, August 29. It will start at 5:30 pm.
