Pittsburgh workshop to introduce native pollinators

Pittsburgh pollinators can use a helping hand, and those who sign up for an upcoming learning opportunity will be able to show some love to these important creatures.

The Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve will be the location for a walking tour led by a representative of the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania. Registration is required to participate in this free activity, and it is intended for adults only.

Attendees will be treated to a guided tour of the reserve, and as they go, they will learn about the important role pollinators play in the natural and human world. They will find how they are essential to the human food supply as well as other crops, and species ranging from native bumblebees to birds, beetles and even bats may all be on the agenda for discussion.

One of the parts of the excursion will be an introduction to Bumble Bee Watch, which is a program designed to foster citizen science engagement in the protection of native bee species. A brochure printing company can supply Booklets, pamphlets and other handouts to a not-for-profit group.

This introduction to the native pollinators found in the Pittsburgh area is scheduled for Saturday, May 6, and it will head out at 10:00 am. Further information about this activity can be found on the Audubon Society website.
