Currently, health coverage is based on how often health providers give care to patients.
The first step is a survey by the Department of Health of insurers across Pennsylvania to gauge the perception of a value-based approach. The timing is not yet determined, but according to Secretary of Health Karen Murphy, the results will help set goals to expand this system across the state.
The reason behind the move is the increasing amount of money being spent on care, coupled with the reduction in outcomes. According to Dr. Barry Bittman, chief population officer at North Sidebased Allegheny Health Network:
“As much as 40 percent of health care spending may be waste.”
In 2010, the federal government passed the Affordable Care Act, which is helping move the nation’s health sector closer to the value-based system. As an example, when readmission rates miss federal rates, Medicare has the ability to cut reimbursement payments to hospitals.
It is possible that a local printing company supported the conference through different services, including brochure printing and poster printing, which would aid the presentations.
