Pittsburgh class to teach how harvest tasty weeds

Mother Nature offers a bounty of produce that can be harvested free of charge, and a Pittsburgh class will soon be introducing these wild foods to the community.

Grow Pittsburgh will be hosting a session that introduces attendees to the edible weeds that may be growing right in their own backyard. They will find out how they can utilize these plants, and tickets for the session are $10 each.

During the 90-minute session, participants will discover how to identify the weeds that are good to eat and tell them apart from inedible ones, and they will also find out how, when, and where to find them. Preparing tips will be shared, and there will also be general advice given for dealing with unwanted plants before they get out of hand. There will be an opportunity for the learners to ask questions.

Foraging and harvesting plants for food can be fun, tasty, and also thrifty. Basic field guides can help to make the practice easier, and these can be prepared for distribution by a printing services company that offers comb and other binding options.

This introduction to the art and science of turning unwanted plants into nutritious food will be running from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 16. It will be on offer at 7211 Thomas Boulevard.
