Festival aims to educate future scientists

Chemfest is coming to the Carnegie Science Center this month for two days.

It is held in honor of National Chemistry Month in association with the American Chemical Society. It should be especially interesting to those families with children who have an interest in a career in science.

Several local companies, universities and colleges will be hosting a variety of demonstrations and experiments. Some of the topics that will be covered are set to include forensics, light mixing, elephant toothpaste, living crystallizations and chromatography butterflies. Visitors will also have the chance to do some hands-on experimentation on topics like phosphorescence. The Drake Oil Well Museum’s Mobile Energy Education Training Unit will be in attendance for one day.

Admission to this festival is free with general admission to the center. Admission prices are $19.95 for adults and $11.95 for children between the ages of 3 and 12, which gives access to the basics of the center, prices are $31.90 or $23.90 for access to all areas.

It’s likely that a Pittsburgh Stationery printing company will be contacted to provide printed advertising materials to help spread the word about this event.

Chemfest will take place at the Carnegie Science Center from October 21 to 22 beginning at 10:00 AM each day. To find out more information about planned activities during the festival, call 412-237-3400.
