Art exhibit covers Warhol's early years

The exhibition ‘Pearlstein, Warhol, Cantor: From Pittsburgh to New York’ will soon be showing at The Andy Warhol Museum.

The exhibit is curated by Jessica Beck and Matt Wrbican. The three artists who are featured all attended Carnegie Tech in the 1950s where they became friends.

Warhol, along with Philip Pearlstein and Dorothy Cantor, worked as a commercial illustrator, and they also all moved to and worked in New York City in commercial design. Cantor married Pearlstein but stopped work to raise their children.

The exhibit is set to feature 50 paintings and photographs from Pearlstein and Cantor, including three of his recent works. It also features some works of Warhol's that are on loan from other galleries and the Carnegie Tech assignments for all three.

There will be an opening celebration held the evening before the exhibit opens. Guests will enjoy a cash bar and swing-era jazz music.

This Pittsburgh event may attract those who work for graphic design and Print companies in the city. It will give them a view of the commercial art of the '50s and may inspire them to emulate some of their ideas.

The exhibit will be held at The Warhol Museum from May 30 to September 6. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, and admission is $20 for adults and $10 for seniors and children.
