Running for a cause in Leechburg

A race to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and raise funds is scheduled for Leechburg.

The Shamrock Shuffle 5K and 1-Mile Family Fun Walk is back for the eighth year, giving people a chance to participate both virtually and in person. Those who are running the physical race will enjoy a unique certified course that winds throughout West Leechburg, with both the start and finish lines at the West Leechburg Fire Department Social Hall.

The 5K event is open to participants of all ages. GCXC Race Timing & Management will handle the chip timing. The 1 Mile Fun Walk will not be timed, and is ideal for those who want to support a good cause but not run a full-on race. People in both events are encouraged to wear costumes, and pets are welcome as long as they are on a leash

Organizers say the waiting/registration area is indoors, and heated for everyone’s comfort. Furthermore, the first 300 people to register will receive a free swag bag. Disney characters and a balloon artist will be on hand and snacks and other refreshments will be provided.

Semper Gratus is using the event as a fundraiser. The organization has already raised approximately $200,000 for several nonprofits, such as the Alzheimer’s Association, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The two races are set for March 18, and both races begin at 10.00 am. Organizers of events like this can use banner printing to create course markers.
